I'm booking my Jetta in this week to get a new clutch and flywheel, and i'm unsure of which option to go for. I know I'm not in a skoda yet (was looking to get a petrol vrs next, hence joining the forum), but this place seems like the best place for getting reliable information on tdi tuning.
My Jetta is a 2006 2.0 TDI (6 speed), originally 140bhp, so i guess the same as the Octavia, etc, but the turbo failed a few weeks after purchasing so went down the route of getting a hybrid turbo fitted, as i wanted to remap anyway, I felt this would hopefully give me a little more reliability with the turbo being a weak point on these. The turbo kit and mapping was sold as a 230bhp upgrade, but i asked to have that eased off a little because of the standard clutch (whether that was done or not i'm not sure). The car hasn't been tested for power, but i'd guess it's in the 200bhp range, comparing it to my old clio 182, Torque wise i'm not so sure.
Anyway, the clutch as lasted well and still isn't slipping. but i'm having problems with other element of the clutch system. Lot's of knocking at idle from the dmf, squeching when pulling off especially when cold, difficult to get into gear sometimes at standstill (so 1st and reverse gears), and recently the car has wanted to edge forward when stopped with the clutch fully down when i lift off the brake pedal (lifting off the clutch slightly to the biting point and putting back down again seems to sort it), and it's also a little jumpy sometimes when pulling off when cold.
I've tried to research the Valeo single mass flywheel conversion kit, it generally gets good reviews from people that have tried it, but they all seem to be on the 1.9 tdi engine rather than the 2.0 tdi. So was wondering if anyone else had experience with this kit and wanted to advise on whether they felt it was worth doing or sticking with the dmf?
I know there are a lot of issues with other branded smf conversions for various reasons, such as the flywheel being too light and low quality, etc
Though I've also been advised that the standard setup should be fine upto around 190-200bhp, which I'm happy to believe, as i think my dmf was on its way out anyway when i bought the car, it's now on 127k miles and a few of the other symptoms were present when i bought the car too. To be honest i didn't think the clutch would last this long after getting the hybrid turbo fitted. It's done around 23k miles now.
So I'm also wondering whether i should just stick to a standard branded dmf kit and risk the flywheel going again, potentially in a couple of years time.
I'm likely to keep the car for another couple of years now at least, before seriously thinking about a change, so don't want to be doing the clutch and flywheel again in the time i've got the car, so I need to make sure i'm picking the right option.
Sorry for the wall of text, any help would be appreciated though.
